EVgo and Regency Centers announced on Sept. 9 plans to add more than 400 fast-charging stalls at Regency shopping centers across the United States.1 The number describes a future deployment plan, not 400-plus chargers that are already open.
The companies say EVgo currently operates more than 150 charging stalls at Regency properties.1 Their Sept. 9 release does not state a completion date or provide a full property-by-property rollout list, and the announcement itself does not establish that the newly planned stalls are installed, under construction, energized or operating.1
The planned expansion includes Regency locations in metropolitan areas in Colorado, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia, along with other states, according to the joint release.1 EVgo and Regency say each new site built through the partnership is planned for up to 24 high-power chargers.1
That still leaves the exact site count open. More than 400 planned stalls combined with a maximum of 24 chargers per new site does not establish how many Regency properties will ultimately be included, and the release does not break the planned stalls down by state.1
A much larger announced expansion than in 2024
EVgo and Regency say their partnership began in 2020.12 In June 2024, EVgo reported that the two companies had opened more than 120 public fast-charging stalls at approximately 40 Regency properties across 10 states, with more than 20 additional stalls planned over the following year.2
The Sept. 9 plan is therefore materially larger in stated stall scope than the more-than-20-stall expansion EVgo described in 2024.12 That comparison is between the companies' announced plans, however; the public material reviewed for the new announcement does not provide a site-by-site reconciliation showing how every previously planned Regency location relates to the new 400-plus-stall program.1
The latest release frames the expansion around grocery-anchored shopping centers and says the new stalls are expected to increase Regency's EV-infrastructure footprint by more than 20% once complete.1 That percentage is a forward-looking company expectation rather than a completed increase.
For now, the clearest measure of the announcement is its planned scale: more than 400 additional stalls on top of a company-reported existing Regency footprint of more than 150.1 The next concrete execution markers will be property-level site announcements, permits or construction starts, openings, or a firm rollout timetable.
