Privacy policy

Your data should not be hidden in the fine print.

This policy explains how At The Charger collects, uses, and shares information when you visit the site, contact the newsroom, or use an EV tool.

Scope

This policy applies to At The Charger’s website, articles, guides, and tools. It does not govern websites, applications, or services operated by other organizations, even when we link to them.

Information we receive

Information you choose to provide. If you email the newsroom, we receive your email address and the contents and metadata of your message. Please do not send sensitive personal information that is not necessary for your request.

Basic usage and technical information. Our hosting and security providers may process request information such as IP address, request path, timestamp, browser or device information, referrer, approximate location derived from an IP address, response status, and diagnostic or security data.

Privacy-focused analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand page views, referrers, general country or region, browser, operating system, and device type. Vercel states that this analytics product uses anonymized, aggregated data and does not use cookies. We also record limited events such as which tool was calculated, shared, or filtered. Those custom events do not include the numbers entered into calculators.

EV tools and lookup data

Calculators. Calculator values are processed in your browser. We do not intentionally transmit those entered values as custom analytics properties. If you create, visit, or share a calculator URL containing values in its query string, that URL may appear in browser history, a recipient’s systems, hosting request records, or referrer information. Do not place sensitive information in a share URL.

Official-data lookups. Vehicle specification and recall tools send the selected model year, make, model, or vehicle record identifier to our server. Our server forwards the information needed for the request to FuelEconomy.gov or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. These selections identify a vehicle configuration, not a specific person or vehicle identification number.

Incentive finder. Incentive filters run in your browser. A limited analytics event may identify the kind of filter used, but not the selected filter value.

How we use information

We use information to deliver and secure the site, answer messages, provide requested tools, measure aggregate readership and feature use, diagnose errors, prevent abuse, improve coverage and tools, and comply with legal obligations. We do not use calculator inputs to build advertising profiles.

Cookies and advertising

At The Charger does not currently use cookies for accounts or Vercel Web Analytics. Your browser, email provider, linked sites, or other services may use their own storage technologies under their policies.

The site may display advertising through Google AdSense. When advertising is active, Google and its advertising partners may use cookies, local storage, IP addresses, device information, page activity, or similar data to deliver, limit, personalize, and measure ads, depending on your location and consent choices. Where required, an advertising consent tool will provide choices before consent-dependent technology is used. Learn more about how Google handles business data and manage personalized advertising through Google My Ad Center.

When information is shared

We may share or permit processing of information with service providers that host, secure, analyze, or support the site; with official data providers when you request a lookup; and with advertising providers when advertising is active. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect rights or safety, to investigate abuse, or as part of a business transfer.

We do not sell personal information for money. We do not knowingly use personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising except as described above when an advertising service is active and subject to applicable choices.

Retention and security

We keep information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described here, subject to provider retention settings, legal obligations, security needs, and backup cycles. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, but we use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the information we handle.

Your choices and rights

You can decline to email us, avoid using share URLs, adjust browser storage and advertising settings, use available consent controls, or leave the site. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, or withdrawal of consent for certain personal information.

Because Vercel Web Analytics is designed around anonymous aggregate data, we may not be able to associate an analytics record with you. We do not currently respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals because there is no consistent industry standard. Where legally applicable, we honor supported privacy choices for advertising.

Children’s privacy

At The Charger is a general-audience publication and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and delete it as appropriate.

International visitors

The site and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Those locations may have different data-protection rules than your home jurisdiction. Where required, providers use recognized safeguards for international transfers.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the site, providers, or legal requirements change. We will post the revised version here and update the date above. Material changes may also be highlighted elsewhere on the site when appropriate.
