SK On says it signed a five-year agreement with NeoVolta Power to supply 9 GWh of LFP pouch battery cells from 2027 through 2031, with the contracted cells to be produced at an SK On plant in Georgia. The companies signed the agreement Aug. 27, according to SK On's Aug. 31 Korea-time announcement as reported by Reuters and Yonhap.12
SK On also said it plans to pursue a separate additional 9 GWh arrangement with NeoVolta Power later in 2026.12 That second arrangement is still a plan, not part of the signed contract, so the current firm commitment described by SK On is 9 GWh rather than 18 GWh.
The deal matters to the EV industry because SK On's U.S. manufacturing footprint was built around electric-vehicle batteries, and the company had already laid out a plan to use some of that footprint for stationary storage.
The EV connection is in SK On's factory footprint
In September 2025, SK On said it would enter the U.S. battery-energy-storage-system market with an initial 1 GWh supply agreement for Flatiron Energy Development and a framework that could expand through additional projects. In the same announcement, SK On said it planned to begin U.S.-made LFP storage-battery mass production by leveraging part of SK Battery America's EV-battery production lines in Commerce, Georgia.3
SK Battery America currently describes its Commerce operation as a 22 GWh EV-battery manufacturing base and as SK On's flagship U.S. entity.4 Against that background, the new NeoVolta contract gives SK On another concrete future stationary-storage outlet for a U.S. battery footprint historically positioned around EV production.
There is an important limit to that connection: the new NeoVolta announcement, as reproduced in the current Reuters and Yonhap reports, says the cells will be made at an SK On plant in Georgia but does not identify the facility by name.12 SK On's earlier Commerce plan therefore does not establish that the NeoVolta cells are assigned to the Commerce plant or to the specific EV lines discussed in 2025.
The public record also does not establish that the new contract has already raised utilization at any SK On plant, changed EV-battery output or displaced EV production. Deliveries do not begin until 2027 under the schedule SK On announced.12
NeoVolta is building its own Georgia storage operation
NeoVolta's current SEC filing says it owns 80% of NeoVolta Power and describes the joint venture's Pendergrass, Georgia, manufacturing facility as approximately 210,000 square feet. The filing says the plant is being built in phases, with the initial phase expected by the end of NeoVolta's fiscal 2027 first quarter.5
NeoVolta Power's own site describes an initial 2 GWh of annual BESS manufacturing capacity, scalable to 8 GWh, focused on battery-pack assembly and DC-container integration.6 Those capacity figures describe NeoVolta Power's manufacturing platform; they do not disclose how SK On's 9 GWh cell supply will be divided across the five-year contract.
For now, the firm new fact is narrower: SK On says it has a signed 9 GWh, 2027-2031 cell-supply commitment tied to Georgia production. Which SK On Georgia facility supplies those cells, how deliveries are phased, what the agreement ultimately does to factory utilization, and whether the proposed second 9 GWh arrangement becomes a definitive contract remain unresolved.
