BYD’s Canadian passenger-vehicle website now carries a “COMING SOON” message, but the company’s legal terms provide the clearer signal about how its retail entry is taking shape. BYD Canada’s terms, effective Aug. 3, say the website does not currently accept vehicle purchases, leases, financing applications, reservations, pre-orders or deposits. The same terms say BYD vehicles will be sold in Canada through approved dealers.12
The public evidence supports treating the current setup as retail preparation, not proof that Canadian sales have launched.12 BYD’s terms identify BYD Canada Company Limited in Markham, Ontario, as the operator of the Canadian site and say approved dealers will be independently owned and responsible for their own pricing, contracts and customer interactions.2
The distinction matters because the Canadian site already displays a large amount of BYD’s global vehicle and technology material beneath the “COMING SOON” banner. BYD explicitly warns in its terms that models, trims, features and equipment shown on the site may include international-market material and may not ultimately be offered in Canada.2 The current site does not establish a Canada-specific model lineup, pricing, dealer list, reservation flow or launch date.1
BYD is staffing the dealer network before sales open
Current BYD North America job postings make the company’s preparation more concrete without proving that dealerships are already operating.
A Toronto-based Head of Sales posting says the role will lead nationwide sales strategy for BYD passenger vehicles in Canada, establish and manage a dealer network, coordinate vehicle allocation and inventory planning, and support product launches across the country.3
A separate Network Development Manager posting, also in Toronto, calls for identifying and recruiting dealer partners, managing dealer agreements and appointments, supporting dealer onboarding and coordinating dealership construction projects.4 Those responsibilities show what BYD is recruiting people to build; they do not establish that any specific dealer has been appointed or that a dealership construction project has begun.
The current company-controlled evidence is therefore more specific than a generic statement that BYD wants to enter Canada: BYD has a Canadian consumer site, Canada-specific legal terms describing an approved-dealer retail channel, and active roles dedicated to national passenger-vehicle sales and dealer-network development.1234
The Canadian entry plan itself is not new
BYD’s Canadian ambitions were already public months before the current website signal. Reuters reported on June 25 that Transport Canada records showed BYD had started compliance procedures involving two passenger cars. Reuters also reported, citing Dealer Solutions Mergers & Acquisitions CEO Farid Ahmad, that BYD planned to open six Canadian dealerships that year.5
In the same report, BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li told Reuters that the company was still deciding which models to launch in Canada and would likely begin sales in 2027.5 That remains a reported expectation rather than a firm launch commitment: BYD’s current Canadian page does not publish a sales date.1
That is why the “COMING SOON” banner should not be read as confirmation that sales have started—or that the global products shown on the page are the Canadian lineup. BYD’s own terms say transactions are not currently available through the site and caution that international-market vehicles shown there may never be offered in Canada.2
The next verifiable consumer-facing milestones would be named Canadian models and prices, confirmed dealer locations, an order or reservation process, and a firm launch date. Until then, the company’s public materials show a dealer-based retail operation being prepared, not proof that one is open for business.12
