Einride CEO Expects About 75 Tesla Semis Deployed in 2026 — Roughly 15% of the 500-Truck Plan

Einride CEO Roozbeh Charli expects approximately 75 of the company’s planned 500 Tesla Semis to be deployed before the end of 2026, with the remainder targeted for deployment by the end of 2027, according to his Aug. 26 interview with FreightWaves.¹²

That puts a much more specific cadence on a deal Einride had already announced eight days earlier. Seventy-five trucks would equal roughly 15% of the 500-truck plan, leaving approximately 425 — about 85% — for the later target window if the rollout proceeds as currently described. Those percentages and the 425-truck figure are newsroom arithmetic, not guidance from Einride or Tesla.³¹

The 500-truck announcement was the starting point, not the 2026 count

Einride announced on Aug. 18 that it planned to deploy 500 Tesla Semi trucks on its Saga AI platform across North America. The company said the rollout would happen in multiple phases over 24 months beginning in September 2026, using third-party financing solutions.³

Einride said the trucks are intended to serve Amazon and other customers across freight corridors in California, Texas, New Jersey, Illinois and Georgia.³ Tesla Semi Director Dan Priestley also acknowledged the 500-Semi order in a statement included in Einride’s release.³

The newer information is Charli’s near-term target. FreightWaves reports that he expects approximately 75 of the 500 to be deployed before year-end, with the rest targeted by the end of the following year, and describes the program as U.S.-focused.¹ EVwire’s Aug. 27 account of the same interview states the balance as approximately 425 trucks targeted by the end of 2027.²

That end-2027 wording matters because FreightWaves’ page also contains an inconsistent generated-summary bullet that says the remainder is due by end-2026. The interview/body context and EVwire’s reproduction support end-2027, so the generated bullet is not used here.¹²

“Deployed” is not the same as “delivered”

The strongest status the current evidence supports is Einride’s expected deployment of approximately 75 trucks before year-end. The inspected sources do not establish that Tesla has committed to deliver 75 trucks by a particular date, that 75 have already been registered, or that 75 are already hauling freight for customers.³¹

That distinction is especially important because Einride’s Aug. 18 announcement said the multi-phase rollout would begin in September.³ A deployment target can depend on vehicle availability, financing, customer assignment, charging and operating readiness; the current packet does not establish those steps truck by truck.

The same caution applies to the 2027 balance. Charli’s timetable is a current executive target, not a guarantee that all 500 trucks will be operating by the end of next year.¹

Einride says the Tesla plan would roughly triple its fleet

Einride’s Aug. 18 first-half results said the 500-Tesla-Semi program is expected to take its deployed fleet from approximately 250 vehicles to roughly 750.⁴ A regulatory filing supplies a more precise but differently defined snapshot: as of June 30, Einride reported 246 connected electric trucks and six autonomous trucks in its Freight Capacity as a Service fleet.⁵

Those figures should not be forced into a single exact denominator because they come from different dates and definitions. They do, however, show why the 500-truck plan is material to Einride’s fleet scale if it is executed.

There is also a separate 75-truck number in Einride’s current disclosures that should not be conflated with Charli’s Tesla Semi target. The company’s first-half release separately discusses a previously announced Amazon middle-mile deployment of 75 electric heavy-duty trucks across five U.S. locations.⁴ The current evidence does not establish that those are the same trucks as the approximately 75 Tesla Semis Charli expects to deploy before the end of 2026.

The next useful evidence will be operational rather than another repetition of the 500-truck headline: actual September deployment, delivery, registration or customer-service records that show what Einride and Tesla mean in practice as the rollout begins.
