Flip AI was already a public product months before Einride’s Aug. 27 announcement. Flipturn launched the charging-operations agent on Jan. 14 with a public scope centered on monitoring charger health, investigating and tracking issues, recommending next steps and sending operators daily email summaries.1 What is new now is a claimed action layer: Einride says Flip AI can autonomously reboot stalled chargers, open vendor tickets with diagnostic data and text fleet managers about projected delays.2
Flipturn’s current product documentation also puts boundaries around what the company means by automation. It says a user must sign off on an automation before Flip acts; once approved, the automation can run without someone watching. Flipturn says every run is logged, runs can be stopped mid-flight and certain tools are blocked from automations altogether.3
That makes the Aug. 27 release less a first launch of Flip AI than a documented expansion of what the product is supposed to do. Einride describes it as the first product to ship since its acquisition of Flipturn, but Flipturn’s own dated product archive shows the AI agent was already live before that deal.21
What changed since January
Flipturn’s January launch described an agent that watched charging operations around the clock, surfaced issues, investigated them and tracked them through resolution. It could use site context and vendor documentation, then send issue summaries and recommended next steps by email. Flipturn said the feature was included in every plan and could be turned on immediately.1
A February product-design post makes the starting point even clearer. Flipturn called the daily charger-health recap its first Flip AI feature and said it had explored more involved approaches, including custom workflows that could remotely reset chargers and agents that could ingest an operator’s runbook. The company said those approaches required more setup and training than it wanted for the initial feature.4
The current product page now describes the broader workflow system those earlier posts were pointing toward. Users can define an automation in chat as a trigger plus a sequence of actions, including steps that wait for conditions. Flipturn says Flip confirms the logic before saving the automation, and approved automations can then run without an operator watching each execution.3
What “autonomous” looks like in Flipturn’s own example
Flipturn’s current faulted-charger example shows a workflow rather than just a marketing claim. In the illustrated sequence, Flip checks a charger that is online but faulted, decides a soft reset is warranted and sends the reset command. Roughly six minutes later, with the charger still faulted, the workflow texts a shift lead and analyzes past logs.3
The example then asks whether to escalate and open a ticket, presenting Create ticket and Cancel choices before showing the ticket being created.3 That detail matters because Einride’s release separately says Flip AI can autonomously open vendor tickets.2 The public materials do not establish that ticket creation is always automatic, always separately approval-gated or configured the same way in every workflow.
The approval model is broader than approving every individual reset. Flipturn says the user signs off on the automation itself before Flip acts; after that, runs may execute unattended, while remaining logged and stoppable.3 So the documented model is neither a purely advisory chatbot nor an agent with unrestricted authority over connected fleet systems.
The charger controls and ticketing plumbing already existed
Flipturn already had much of the underlying infrastructure needed for these workflows before the Aug. 27 release. Its current integrations documentation says the platform supports OCPP 1.6J and 2.0.1, exposes remote charger controls and has been tested or deployed with more than 50 charger hardware models.5 Flipturn’s April API post also described using alerts and reliability data to automate ticketing into systems such as Salesforce Service Cloud, ServiceNow and PagerDuty.6
That means the product change is best understood as Flip AI orchestrating existing charger-control, data and workflow interfaces rather than inventing remote charger control or maintenance-ticket integration from scratch.356 The broader platform compatibility claims also should not be read as proof that every Flip AI action works on every connected charger model or every possible fault condition.5
Real automation use exists, but the headline-grabbing actions still lack independent field proof
Flipturn has published customer examples showing Flip AI automations in production for less dramatic operational work. It says Zeem Solutions uses the system for recurring odometer audits at shift changes and month-end reporting.7 A separate Flipturn case study says 4Gen Logistics uses configurable automations for terminal-dwell alerts and recurring dwell reports.8
Those examples support that Flip AI is being used for scheduled and event-driven fleet workflows, but they do not independently establish a customer deployment in which Flip AI itself autonomously rebooted a production charger or autonomously opened a vendor ticket. The public material reviewed for this story contained company capability documentation and vendor-published customer cases, but no independent customer confirmation of those specific remediation actions.23789
