Rivian confirmed to Chron that it plans a new retail hub at 2519 Southwest Freeway in Houston in 2027 and that the site will feature Rivian Adventure Network charging.1 Texas records add a useful detail beyond that confirmation: the charging work is registered as a separate $330,000 project from the $2.3 million, 6,237-square-foot Rivian Hub renovation at the same address.23
That separate filing is the clearest public-record clue to how Rivian is structuring the site, but it is not a charger-spec sheet. The reviewed Texas record does not state charger count, rated power, connector mix, public-access terms, energization timing or a network-opening date.3
The Adventure Network work has its own state record
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation registered Rivian EV Chargers SW Freeway, Houston on May 11. The record lists the facility as Rivian Adventure Network Houston, names Rivian LLC as the owner and gives an estimated project cost of $330,000 at 2519 Southwest Freeway Unit EV.3
Its visible scope is narrow: an ADA parking stall. The record also lists planned project dates from June 15, 2026 through June 15, 2027 and a status of Review Complete.3 Those fields establish a separately registered Rivian charging project at the address; they do not establish that the charging site will open June 15, 2027 or that the hardware is already installed or energized.
Chron's Sept. 15 update fills in one part that the filing alone could not: it reports that a Rivian representative said the future hub will include Rivian Adventure Network charging and direct access to Rivian fast-charging infrastructure.1 The state record independently supports the existence of a Rivian-owned charging project there, while leaving the actual charger configuration unresolved.3
The $2.3 million hub renovation is a different filing
TDLR registered the retail project on March 4 as Rivian Houston Retail Hub, with Rivian Houston Hub as the facility name. The record describes renovation and alteration of an existing 6,237-square-foot restaurant tenant space, including interior and exterior work and site repair, with an estimated cost of $2.3 million.2
That filing lists planned project dates from June 1 through Dec. 4, 2026 and also shows Review Complete.2 The Dec. 4 date is a planned project-completion field, not a Rivian public-opening date. The newer company confirmation reported by Chron points to 2027 for the hub.1
The two estimates should not be collapsed into a single $2.63 million project figure. They belong to separate TDLR records with different scopes and schedules.23
What is still unknown about Rivian's Houston plan
Rivian's live location directory, reviewed Sept. 15, still lists its existing Houston Service + Demo Center at 14820 North Freeway and did not show 2519 Southwest Freeway as an open location.4 The reviewed evidence does not establish whether the future Southwest Freeway hub will supplement, replace or otherwise change the role of that existing center.41
The more useful next update will be operational rather than another permit interpretation: a Rivian site listing, charger count and rated power, connector/access details, or a verified energization/opening milestone. Until then, the public record supports a confirmed 2027 Houston hub with planned Adventure Network charging — and a distinct state filing for that charging work — but not the final charging layout.31
