Waymo Is Now Available Through Lyft in Nashville — Its Own App Has Offered Rides Since April

Lyft riders in Nashville can now be matched with fully autonomous Waymo vehicles. Waymo's Nashville public service had already been live through its own app since April 7; the September 9 change is that eligible Lyft requests can now receive a Waymo match too.¹²³

Lyft and Waymo say Nashville is the first market where Waymo vehicles are available through both companies' apps.¹ That makes this an access-channel launch rather than a new Nashville robotaxi launch: Waymo's service was already operating, and the Lyft integration adds another way for riders to reach it.

Which Lyft rides can get a Waymo

The Lyft-side rollout currently covers Standard, Priority Pickup, Wait & Save, and Extra Comfort requests. To be eligible, both the start and end of the trip must be inside Lyft's Waymo service area covering Downtown/Broadway, North Nashville/Germantown, East Nashville, Midtown, and South Nashville.¹³

Lyft says there is no additional charge specifically for being matched with a Waymo. Riders can decline an autonomous match or opt out of autonomous rides entirely.¹³

Waymo described its April Nashville launch as covering an initial 60-square-mile service area.² Lyft's September announcement instead lists the central neighborhoods where Lyft trips can qualify for a Waymo match.¹ Those two descriptions do not establish that the Waymo-app and Lyft-app service areas are identical.

This was promised before it went live

The Lyft integration has been part of the Nashville plan since before Waymo began public rides there. Waymo and Lyft announced their Nashville partnership on September 17, 2025, saying riders would first hail Waymos through Waymo's app and would later be able to match with one through Lyft.⁴

When Waymo opened public Nashville rides through its own app on April 7, it again said Lyft-app rides would begin later in 2026.² The September 9 launch is the implementation of that second distribution channel, not a newly announced partnership.

Lyft says the Nashville operation now uses a single Waymo fleet that is dispatched dynamically across the Waymo and Lyft networks.¹ The September 9 launch material reviewed for this story does not disclose current match rates, ride volume, wait-time changes, or fleet-utilization data, so the integration should not be treated as evidence that those measures have improved.¹

Flexdrive is providing fleet management for Waymo in Nashville. Lyft says Flexdrive plans to open a purpose-built 80,000-square-foot depot in October and that the facility is bringing more than 70 full-time roles to Nashville in 2026.¹ Those remain company-stated operating plans rather than proof of a completed depot opening or final employment total.
