Methodology

How the estimate is calculated

Energy required is usable battery capacity multiplied by the requested state-of-charge change.

Effective AC charging power is the lower of the charger output and the vehicle's onboard AC limit. Charging loss is applied before time is calculated.

  • The result assumes steady charging power.
  • For DC fast charging, enter a realistic average session power—not the vehicle's advertised peak—because power normally tapers.

What to know about this estimate

Why can a higher-power charger produce the same result?

The vehicle's onboard charger can be the limiting factor for AC charging. Power above that limit is not used by the vehicle.

Can this predict a DC fast-charging curve?

No. It is an average-power scenario. Temperature, battery conditioning, charger sharing, and taper can materially change a real session.
